DONATING BOOKS TO THE LIBRARY
Drop off your “pre-read” books at any of the Library branches.

Your donations are sold by the Friends of the Library at book sales throughout the year. In the past 17 years, the Friends have raised more than $500,000 to benefit the Library and made thousands of booklovers happy.

To donate books, drop them off at any branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library during regular library hours. You will receive a receipt listing the number and type of books donated. At tax time, all you need to do is calculate the value of your donations for your tax return.

We accept donations of hardback and paperback books for both adults and juveniles. Materials we are not able to accept include:

  • magazines
  • National Geographic magazines
  • Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
  • text books more than 10 years old
  • maps
  • pamphlets
  • incomplete sets of encyclopedias
  • encyclopedias more than 10 years old

Note: To recycle books and magazines that can’t be donated to the Library, call Midwest Fiber Sales Corporation, 911 North Farm Road 123, at 862-1976.
