The Springfield-Greene County Library system provides Federal
tax forms during filing season as a service to the community. Staff members can
direct you to paper copies, Internet resources, and reproducible forms and publications.
Staff cannot help you prepare your taxes or tell you which form you need. We can
direct you to information that will help you decide what you need and to local
groups that provide assistance with filling out your forms. This Web page provides
useful links and answers to frequently asked questions.
Where can I get forms?
Online
Frequently requested Federal Tax forms for the current tax year are available at all branches of the Springfield-Greene County Library. There is no charge for paper forms provided to the Library by the IRS. Reproducible forms can be accessed on the IRS and MODOR web sites directly. If printed at the Library there is a charge of 10 cents per page.
The Library will not receive any paper forms from the Missouri Department of Revenue.
Springfield Post Offices do not carry tax forms.

By mail, Missouri residents may request forms and publications from the nearest

What forms do you supply at the Library?
Each branch orders its own supplies of tax forms. We attempt to supply the
most frequently requested Federal forms. Preprinted forms are free to the public. We do not maintain
inventory sufficient to supply bulk or multiple-copy requests. When supplies are exhausted, copies can be made at the Library for 10 cents per page using IRS or MODOR web sites.
The Library will not receive any paper forms from the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Older Missouri tax forms for individuals are available at the Missouri Department of Revenue
web site back to 1995.
Where can I get out-of-state tax forms?
Out-of-state tax forms are not supplied locally. You may print copies from
other state Department of Revenues from the following web site:

Can I file my forms electronically at the Library?
The Library does not provide proprietary software to help you prepare your
taxes. However, the IRS E-File Web site will guide you to free and low-cost Internet filing opportunities. The
Missouri Department of Revenue provides electronic filing through their MO E-file. Library
staff can direct you to these sites but cannot help you prepare your taxes or
give you guidance in using these electronic forms.

What is the deadline to file my taxes?
In 2009, Missouri taxpayers will have a deadline of April 15, 2009 for both
federal and state income tax. You may
obtain an extension by filling out a form. However, even if you get an extension,
the tax
you owe is still due April 15.
For Missouri, you may file form MO-60 (pdf) for an individual income tax return extension.
For federal taxes, you may file form 4868 (pdf) for an individual income tax return
extension.
My Missouri tax form asks me for my Missouri School District Number.
What is it?

At the Library
Missouri State University students working with the ATLS coalition will offer free federal and state tax return preparation and electronic filing and Missouri property tax credit and federal telephone excise tax refund preparation for those of low-to-moderate income including those with disabilities, non-English speakers and the elderly.

Drury University accounting students will operate an IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site and provide free tax assistance.
This service, targeted toward low-income and senior-citizen taxpayers, is free. To expedite the filing process, taxpayers should bring all W-2s, 1099s, Social Security cards of dependents and a copy of their previous year's return with them to the site. The VITA site is located on both the first and second floors in the Breech School of Business Administration at the corner of Central Street and Drury Lane on Drury University's campus. It will be open the following dates and times:

How do I file for the stimulus payment/rebate offered this year?
According to the IRS,
“Most taxpayers do not need to take any extra steps to receive the payment beginning in early May."
But there are some exceptions.
Individuals who might not otherwise be required to file a 2007 tax return will need to file a return this year to receive the stimulus payment. The return must show at least $3,000 in qualifying income.”

Can I still file for the 2006 Telephone Tax Refund?
After I filed my 2006 return, I discovered that I qualify for the telephone tax refund. Can I still request the refund?
Yes. You can get it by filing an amended return using Form 1040X. Request the telephone tax refund by filling out Line 15 on this form. Fill out the rest of this form using the instructions for Form 1040X. If you choose to base your request on the actual amount of tax paid (rather than using the standard amount), also fill out and attach Form 8913.
