What are some local organizations addressing domestic violence?

The following local resources are listed in alphabetical order.  The information is available in The Directory of Nonprofit Clubs, Agencies, and Organizations in the Springfield Metropolitan Area, 2002 Edition which can be found in the reference and circulating collections of Springfield-Greene County Library District branches; you also may puchase a copy of The Directory at any library branch for ten dollars  The descriptions were provided by the organizations when The Directory was compiled:

1)     The Child Advocacy Center, Inc., facilitates investigation of reported child abuse, especially sexual abuse.  You can reach them by phone (417) 831-2327 or fax (417) 831-5122; their mailing address is 1033 East Walnut, Springfield, Missouri  65806.

2)     Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Southwest Missouri supplies trained community volunteers appointed by the juvenile court to act as an advocate for abused and neglected children.  You can reach them by phone at (417) 864-7413 or fax (417) 864-7412; their mailing address is 833 Boonville Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65802.

3)     The Family Violence Center provides shelter and crisis intervention for abused women and children in a seventeen-county area.  You can reach them by phone (417) 837-7700 or fax (417) 837-7707; their mailing address is P.O. Box 5972, Springfield, Missouri 65801-5972.

4)     The Victim Center provides preventive education, counseling, and crisis intervention.  You can reach them by phone (417) 863-7273, tollfree 1-800-743-5262 or fax (417) 863-9048; their mailing address is 943 Boonville Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65802.  THE 24-HOUR HOTLINE NUMBER IS 864-SAFE (864-7233).

5)     The Parenting Life Skills Center provides classes in parenting, teen support, group meetings, and basic life skills for families.  You can reach them by phone (417) 831-9596 or fax (417) 831-7423; their mailing address is 302 South National Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65806.
