"Summer Reading to Go " Temporary Outreach Youth Assistant
 

Three, part-time, 12 week, grant-funded positions are available in the Outreach Services Department at the Library Center and will be posted until the application deadline of May 1. The jobs are each scheduled for approximately 22 hours per week and pay $9.36 per hour.

Applicants must be available to work Monday through Friday and occasional Saturdays. As a condition of employment, work schedules may change as necessary to best provide user services and to meet the Library's responsibility to the citizens of Greene County.

This position also requires a source of reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of vehicle insurance, as daily use of a personal vehicle is necessary. Mileage reimbursement will be provided.

Essential Functions

Timeliness: Since adherence to a strict schedule is mandatory, the Youth Assistant must be prompt and timely in arriving to work and completing tasks.
Ability to work with children, childcare providers, and the general public in a cooperative, pleasant and constructive manner.
• Performs computer data searches, data entry, word-processing and spreadsheet construction.
• Plans and implements children’s story times and other summer reading program activities at day-camps, and summer school programs.
• Completes reports and correspondence as requested.
• Basic file-keeping and clerical activities.

Education/Experience

• Minimum 60 college credit hours in a related field.
• Experience working with elementary-age children.

Skills/Job Knowledge

• Excellent communications skills, oral and written.
• Working knowledge of children's literature and age appropriate materials.
• Demonstrates artistic and creative ability in the production of children's programming.

Supervision

• Supervised by Outreach Services Manager.

Physical Demands

• Performs bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height.
• Displays good coordination and mobility.
• Routine lifting of library materials weighing up to 35 lbs.
• Indoor and outdoor work environments.

Miscellaneous Requirements

• Must be able to pass a security background check
• Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance on vehicle.
