VOLUNTEER COMPUTER LAB ASSISTANT
 
Position: Volunteer Computer Lab Assistant

The Lab Assistant will be responsible for assisting patrons in the use of the hardware and software applications available in the computer lab.

 

Responsibilities Include:
  • Schedule use of the computers in the computer lab.
  • Provides users with basic assistance in using software applications and refers users to self-help materials when appropriate.
  • Monitors inventory of computer paper, printer toner cartridges and associated supplies.
  • Troubleshoots minor problems with the hardware and software and communicates other problems to Computer Services.
Requirements:
  • Ability to interact pleasantly, constructively and cooperatively with computer users, library patrons and staff.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required.
  • Some knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT and some knowledge of PC hardware is preferred. (Some training will be provided)
  • Ability to effectively listen to and respond to user inquiries.
  • Ability to provide service during times of high public usage.
Physical Demands:
  • Displays good coordination and mobility
  • Able to hear questions from patrons and respond appropriately.
Working Environment:
  • Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library environment.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a security background check, if applicable.
