  • Honor the Book
    9:00 am to 8:00 pm in the children's department for all ages.
    Each hour, at the top of the hour, your favorite librarians, current and past, will read excerpts from a great book. You can also color a bookplate and place it in one of your favorite books.

  • Grace Chang and Jin Jin the Dragon
    10:00 am in meeting rooms A & B for all ages.
    Imaginations of all ages will be captivated by the magical illusions, puppetry and stories of author and international Chinese ringmaster Grace Chang and her friend Jin Jin. Grace will sell and autograph copies of her newest book, "Jin Jin and Rain Wizard," following her performance.

  • The Crafty Book

    Enjoy a cup of herbal tea with Springfield Area Herb Society members Shelley Vaugine and Gina Marie Walden. They'll discuss various herbal tea blends and share suggestions for holiday herbal gifts you can create for family and friends.

  • A Fun Twist on an Original Tale
    3:00 pm in the auditorium for all ages.
    The Opera Theater of the Ozarks presents "The Three Billy Goats Gruff: A Comic Opera for Children," a 40-minute production adapted by John Davies and based on the music of Mozart, Rossini and Donizetti. The goats finally convince the troll, the forest bully, that 'kindness is contagious.'

  • The Music of Pa's Fiddle.
    2:00 pm in the auditorium.
    The tunes played by Charles Ingalls on his fiddle were important to the "Little House" narratives. The original, loaned by the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museum in Mansfield, will be played by Ashley Hull accompanied by musician and music historian Gordon McCann. KSMU journalists Missy Shelton and Mishelle Skalicky will read excerpts from the Wilder books at the concerts.

  • Nutcracker Children's Workshop
    3:00 pm in meeting rooms A & B for ages 3-8.
    Enjoy an afternoon of fun and cuture with the members of the Springfield Ballet including a craft, reading of "The Nutcracker," a short preview performanc, mini-dance class and games. This is a great introduction to the art of ballet. Children should wear comfortable attire (stretch/sweat pants, t-shirt and socks). Registration is required; call Springfield Ballet at 862-1343 to register.

    Imagine tastes, smells and sights from all around the world—in one place! Enjoy an “international potluck” and give immigrants and refugees from abroad a chance to meet their neighbors and learn about their new community. Bring an international dish labeled with the type of food and country of origin and attendees are encouraged to wear international dress. Each month will highlight a different county and feature a brief presentation by a native from that country, plus a few words from a member of a local community organization on what the Ozarks has to offer our new friends.
